--Instead of eating large meals, eat smaller ones
--Don't consume foods that are spicy

In addition to minding the above mentioned suggestions, stay away from foods that tend to relax the valve at the bottom of the esophagus (the lower esophageal sphincter), such as:

Alcohol, Tobacco, Chocolate, Tomatoes, or any drinks with caffeine.

All have the ability to relax the lower esophageal sphincter enough to inhibit its ability to keep stomach acid and stomach contents down.
