    History

    • Daytona Bike Week began in 1937 as a part of the Daytona 200 motorcycle race. The race was held on a sandy course on the beaches of Daytona Beach until 1961, when it was moved to the Daytona International Speedway. Daytona Bike Week brings several hundred thousand visitors to Daytona Beach each year over its 10-day schedule. Motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the U.S. bring their bikes to Daytona Beach to ride and participate in Bike Week events. Although the original Bike Week race is no longer held, the event still celebrates motorcycles and the people who ride them.

    Events

    • Daytona Bike Week activities, during the 10 days of the event, include concerts, contests, motorcycle shows and rides and swimsuit competitions. Some of the Bike Week events for 2010 included a contest to see who had the loudest motorcycle, a contest to see who could hold the most beer steins, a bikini contest and musical performances by tribute bands and the Atlanta Rhythm Section. Annual events at Daytona Bike Week begin daily around 1 p.m. and run until late in the evening.

    Camping

    • Bike Week in Daytona Beach creates an abundance of visitors who are looking for lodging. A popular way to stay in Daytona Beach during Bike Week is to camp at one of the area campgrounds that is near the Daytona International Speedway. The city features three campgrounds and RV parks that are located less than one mile from the speedway. Finish Line RV Park is closest to the speedway, offering campers a walk of less than a quarter-mile to the Bike Week activities. Town & Country RV Park and the Daytona Speedway KOA are both located less than a mile from the Daytona International Speedway for easy access for Bike Week campers.

    Weather

    • Camping in Daytona Beach, Florida, during Bike Week in March offers very mild temperatures. Average high temperatures in Daytona Beach in March are around 75 degrees, while average low temperatures fall to only about 54 degrees. While other areas in the south can bring wet spring weather, Daytona Beach averages less than three inches of rain during March. As a result, Bike Week camping in Daytona Beach does not require extra layers of clothing, and RVs can often go without the use of air conditioners.

    Attractions

    • In addition to watching races and participating in Bike Week activities, visitors to Daytona can participate in the Daytona 500 Experience at the speedway. This attractions allows guests to race in car simulators, watch IMAX movies about the track and its racing history and ride on a tram throughout the speedway. Visitors to Daytona can also experience the city's beaches, water parks and other water attractions. Parasailing, surfing, water slides and other water activities are available in Daytona Beach.
