- 1). Download the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack from the VirtualBox website. Double-click the downloaded file to run it and wait for VirtualBox to start.
- 2). Click the "Install" button to begin. Scroll down in the window that appears to read the license agreement. Click "I Agree" to continue. Wait for VirtualBox to install the extension, then click "OK."
- 3). Click the virtual machine you want to use and click the "Settings" button at the top of the window. Click the "Ports" button in the Settings window.
- 4). Click the "USB" tab. Click the "Enable USB Controller" and "Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller" check boxes.
- 5). Plug your external drive into the computer. Click the plus sign button next to the list below the USB check boxes and select your USB drive from the list.
- 6). Close the Settings window and click the "Start" button to turn on the virtual machine. Make sure there is a check mark next to the USB drive in the "USB" section of the "Devices" menu at the top of the screen. The drive automatically mounts when the virtual machine finishes starting up.
