Election campaign to gallop pace in Pujnab with major rallies

CHANDIGARH:With All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi€s Moga rally on Thursday, the campaign in run-up to the assembly elections in Punjab would gallop pace in the state. As less than two weeks to go for assembly polls, the major star campaigners and political bigwigs would be hitting the campaign trail in the state. The state goes to polls on January 30 and counting will be held on March 06.
The state comprises 117 assembly segments. The main contest in the state is between Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and Congress. However, the People's Party of Punjab led by Manpreet Singh Badal is expected to give tough fight to both Congress and SAD in some of the assembly segments of the state.The major leaders of communist parties like Prakash Krat,Vrinda Krat and A,B. Bardhan will also address the rallies in favour of the candidates of their parties who are part of the the Sanjha Morcha.
Besides AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi will also be addressing rallies to bolster the campaign of Congress in the state which is relying heavily on former Chief Minister and Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) President Amarinder Singh.Though Congress is expecting that anti-incumbency factor would push the party to victory, however, it cannot take the things granted as poll-surveys conducted by various agencies predict close raced between SAD and Congress.
As far as SAD-BJP ruling alliance is concerned, the senior BJP leader, Lal Krishan Advani,Suhsma Swaraj,Arun Jaitley, Gujarat Chief Minsiter Narendra Modi,BJP national president Nitin Ghadkari and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also be addressing rallies in next few days to help the Akalis repeat their showing of 2007 assembly elections and retain the power.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati will also address four ralles in the state on January 21 and January 22 to campaing in favour of BSP candidates.The major leaders of communist parties like Prakash Krat,Vrinda Krat and A,B. Bardhan will also address the rallies in favour of the candidates of their parties who are part of the the Sanjha Morcha.
In addition to rallies of political bigwigs, Team Anna will also be visiting the state on January 24-25 to campaign in Punajb. The members of Team Anna comprising Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejrival, Manish Sisodia and Kumar Biswas will focus their campaign on corruption and against drugs.
