How to Start a Gasoline Lawn Mower
- 1). Check to make sure all the guards, deflectors and covers are in place on your lawn mower and tightened.
- 2). Check underneath the mower to ensure that there are no leaks and that the blades are not hindered by any grass or debris. Remove any debris you may find that will keep the blades from rotating.
- 3). Check the engine oil level. Fill with the correct oil for your lawn mower if it is low. Make sure that you replace the cap tightly afterward.
- 4). Check the fuel level. Fill with gasoline if it is low. Again, make sure the cap is secure before continuing.
- 5). Make sure the the lawn mower is set to the desired cutting height and adjust if necessary.
- 1). If your lawn mower has a neutral lock, move it so it reads "lock."
- 2). Locate the primer button. This is a plastic button on the engine. Press the primer button the specified number of times. The amount should be written next to the button. Otherwise, check with the owner's manual.
- 3). Depress the blade control handle or the operator presence control handle and hold it.
- 4). Slowly pull the starter handle until you feel resistance. Then, pull fast and steady.
- 5). Repeat Step 4 five times. If the mower has not started after five pulls, repeat steps 2-4 and try again. Do not release the control handle or your lawn mower will stop.
- 6). If you moved the neutral lock in Step 7, move it back to unlock.
