    • 1). Allow Dad an opportunity to express how he feels. Do not attempt to talk over the angry dad. Do not attempt to explain or debate his opinion while he is angry. Allow him an uninterrupted opportunity to explain his point of view and what has upset him.

    • 2). Show you are interested in listening to what he has to say. Let him know you are sympathetic to how he feels. Look at him while he is talking. Do not attempt to argue with his statements. After he completes a statement, respond by saying something like, "I understand how you feel."

    • 3). Talk to Dad once he has calmed down. Explain why you feel the way you do or why you did what you did, depending on the situation. Do not attempt to contradict him, but rather, explain your point of view.

    • 4). End your conversation with Dad positively. Let him know you understand why he is upset. Ask him if it would be OK to speak again later, as this will allow him to think over the issue and cool off.
