How to Keep Fresh Flower Stems From Dying So Quickly
- 1). Place three drops bleach and 1 tsp. sugar in the bottom of a vase. Add 1 qt. cool water and mix the ingredients together. The bleach prevents bacteria and mold from growing on the flower stems or in the water and the sugar helps to feed the flowers.

Trim at least 1 inch off the stems of each flower. Cut the flowers at an angle. A newly cut flower can drink in the water and bleach and sugar solution, keeping it fresher longer. - 3). Hold the flowers at arms-length and spray them lightly with hair spray. The hair spray helps preserve the flowers and keep the color fresh. Place the flowers in your vase.
- 4). Change the water in the vase after two or three days. Add fresh bleach and sugar. Cut 1 inch off the stems again before putting the flowers back in the vase.
