How to Grow Scuppernongs From Cuttings
- 1). Snip off a scuppernong cutting from a healthy plant in June or July. Make sure the cutting has three nodes along the stem, and select a shoot around 1/4 inch wide and 18 inches long. Dip the cut end in rooting solution.
- 2). Strip off the lower two leaves from the cutting, leaving a length of bare stem a few inches long. Pinch the end off the top tip of the cutting.
- 3). Fill a large pot with light potting soil mixed with peat moss. Scuppernongs do not grow well in heavy or wet soil. Insert the cutting into the mix, cut end first.
- 4). Keep the soil damp and the leaves lightly sprayed with water until the roots bed down in a few week's time. If you have a timed sprinkler system, set it to mist the area every 10 minutes.
- 5). Locate the cutting pots in an area with dappled or indirect sunlight. Add some potash fertilizer in early spring. Tend in that location for a year.
- 6). Transfer the young scuppernong plants to a bright area with high-potash, slightly acidic soil. Water daily in the summer months.
