    • 1). Perform a visual inspection of your roof. Walk around the entire perimeter of your home to view your roof for loose tiles or noticeable damage from the windstorm. Look for tiles that may have fallen on the ground.

    • 2). Check for tiles or shingles, using a ladder, that have curled or cracked because of trees, hail or other objects that may have contacted your roof. Try to lift tiles on the edge of your roof to determine if the adhesive seal has been broken. Loose tiles can cause extensive water damage to your property. Do not attempt to climb onto your roof if it has a high pitch or the conditions appear unsafe.

    • 3). Check your attic to look for leaks, obstructions or sunlight resulting from a windstorm. Sunlight that was not visible before the windstorm may indicate that your roof has been damaged. Tree branches or limbs can cause damage to your roof upon impact.

    • 4). Contact a roofing company to inspect your roof. A roofing specialist can recognize damage caused by a windstorm, estimate repair costs and perform necessary repairs. A roofer can also evaluate your roof deck's condition and make recommendations. Your roof deck is made of plywood, but exterior tiles are attached to protect it from rain and moisture.
