How to Replace Windows 98 With Linux 400 MHz 192 RAM
- 1). Download the Linux Ubuntu installation ISO file (see the link in Resources) to your desktop. This file is a complete CD image of the Ubuntu operating system install.
- 2). Insert a blank CD-R into your CD-ROM drive. Open the CD-authoring software installed in Windows 98 and choose the option "Create Disc Image." Find the Ubuntu ISO in the file browser and select it as the file you want to burn. Choose "Burn Disc" and allow the CD to complete.
- 3). Restart your computer with the Ubuntu CD in the drive. Most systems will boot directly into the CD, but if yours does not, restart again and press the correct key to enter BIOS. Change CD-ROM to "Primary" in "Boot Order," save the changes and restart again. This boots into the Ubuntu CD.
- 4). Select "Install Ubuntu" from the menu and follow the system-specific steps for installation, such as time zone, language, user name and password. Review what is to be installed and click "Install Ubuntu" again. Note that this process may take up to an hour to complete, depending on the processor speed and amount of RAM installed.
