Fast Self-Check Out Lines Need to Incorporate Driver"s License Reader Technologies

Imagine you are in a supermarket and you notice the lines are way too long, and the most impatient people many of them younger folks go into the self checking automated checkout line.
They scan their products through, and put them into a bag, then show their receipt and wheel out into the parking lot.
Now imagine that one of the groups of people you see in line is a group of 17-year-olds from the local high school, and these kids have just bought several bottles of hard alcohol and beer.
You know that it is illegal for these minors to buy alcohol, and yet you do not want a confrontation in the parking lot later on if you turn them in.
The automatic checkout system has allowed these minors to buy the alcohol, and it has no system for checking ID.
Meanwhile, since the self-checkout-systems are so busy, the attendant does not notice that they just bought a bunch of alcohol.
These "Alcohol Minor Issues" are very serious and becoming a real problem, as teenagers are exploiting the system.
Now, several states including California are instituting rules and laws that alcohol cannot be sold in the self-checkout lines, meaning those skew numbers will be rejected, and this will alert the employee monitoring the self-checkout area or lanes.
Rather, than making more laws the self-checkout-lines should incorporate driver's license scanning machines that read driver's license date of birth.
This would be fairly easy to do and such technology already exists.
This might be one solution, and if it is phased in over the next 4-5 years, everyone is covered and no business has to shell out more money right away for some new law.
So please consider this.
