How to Clear Coat Drums
- 1). Disassemble your drums.
- 2). Spray a coat of lacquer onto the wood of your drums. Allow it to dry for a few minutes before applying another coat. After the third coat dries, sand the lacquer with 300-grit sandpaper until the coat of lacquer is even and smooth. Dust the drum with a dust cloth each time you sand it.
- 3). Repeat Step 2 until the drum is coated in twenty to twenty-five coats of lacquer. Adjust the number of coats according to how glossy you want the wood to be.
- 4). Allow the lacquer to dry for several days (up to one week), and sand it with 1000-grit sandpaper until the finish is smooth and even.
- 5). Polish the lacquer with swirl and haze remover, and finish by waxing it with carnauba wax.
