How to Stop Changes to the Screen Saver
- 1). Log in to Windows using an account possessing administrative capabilities without restrictions.
- 2). Open the Group Policy Editor by clicking on "Start" followed by "Run." Type the command "MMC" and press "Enter." Navigate to "File" and select the "Add/Remove Snap-in" setting. Scroll down to "Group Policy Object" and select "Add."
- 3). Specify which user or groups of users you want the settings change to affect under the "Browse" section. This adds the Group Policy Editor to administrative tools. You can access this by typing "gpedit.msc" into the "Run" box in the "Start" menu.
- 4). Expand the User Configuration section in the left side of console. Select the sub-section "Administrative Templates" followed by "Control Panel." Under "Personalization," double-click "Force a Specific Screen Saver."
- 5). Select the "Enabled" radio button and type the full file path to the screen saver under "Screen Saver Executable Name." The path must be typed in full; for example, "C:\Users\Default\Downloads\." After enabling this setting, users will not have the option to select a screen saver in the drop-down list.
