• Continental offers online compassion or bereavement discounts of between five and 20 percent on fares in the event of a death or serious illness of an immediate family member. Purchasers must provide the name of the relative, the relationship to the customer, name, address and telephone number of the funeral home, hospice or hospital, and name of doctor, if applicable.

• Delta offers bereavement rates through its reservations agents in the event of death, or imminent death, in one's immediate family. Purchasers must provide the deceased person's name, the passenger's relationship to the deceased, name and phone number of funeral home, hospital or hospice, and name of doctor, if applicable. Domestic tickets must be purchased within three days of the death or imminent death of the family member, or seven days for international flights.
  
  

United Airlines

• United offers compassion fares of 10 percent off published fares to customers purchasing tickets for last-minute travel for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment, attending to a seriously ill or injured immediate family member or attending the funeral of an immediate family member. Purchasers must provide the name of the family member, the family member's relationship to the customer, the name, address and telephone number of the hospital, hospice or funeral home, and the name of the attending physician, if applicable. Compassion rates may be booked at ticket counters or through reservations agents.
  
  

American Airlines

• American offers compassion fares for customers traveling due to medical emergencies of their own or of a family member, or due to the death of a family member. American does not limit compassion fares to immediate family, and domestic partners are included. Compassion fares may be booked by American's reservations agents or by travel agents, and must be completed within one day of completion of the reservation. Compassion fares also apply to relatives and friends of soldiers who are deceased, injured, missing in action or prisoners or war.
