With the present issues of global warming, more and more individuals are aiming for the best option to minimize harm to the environment. Today, one of the most recommended alternatives is solar engineering. Because of these environmental concerns, many individuals are in to study this specific topic or any related degree that focus in designing and manufacturing machines. Once these individuals finish their degrees, there will surely be plenty of work waiting for them either in the residential or commercial industries.

More and more research and development are now also focused on solar engineering because of the increasing interest in creating solar panels that will be functional all throughout the day. But before a person decides on pursuing this degree, he should be able to determine the advantages and disadvantages of using solar energy.

The Pros of Solar Energy

It is a given fact that solar power is a renewable resource which technically means that pollution will not be generated once solar power is employed. And that is the first advantage of using solar energy.

The second advantage is that sunlight is technically spread all over therefore solar power can be produced wherever an individual is currently situated. A homeowner who is interested to use solar panels will be able to gather sunlight and to have electrical energy even in the absence of an electric provider in his area.

The third advantage is that solar energy is free. This simply means that everyone can employ solar energy. The fourth advantage is that the technology required in converting sunlight to solar energy is currently existent. Another and one of the best among the many benefits of solar energy is that a user can expect it to last for several years because of the absence of moving elements.

The Cons of Solar Energy

There are fewer disadvantages of solar energy as compared to the several benefits mentioned above.

If an individual does not know where to purchase components for a solar power panel with cheap or even discounted prices, the costs that he will spend for his first purchase can be expensive. This is the first disadvantage.

The second disadvantage of solar energy is the fact that most solar panels are large in size. This could simply mean that these panels can consume a lot of space. But there is one solution for this. A homeowner is advised to place the solar panel array in the roof to safe space inside the house.

Another disadvantage of solar energy is that an individual cannot at all cost generate energy during the night simply because the sun is not out. This is why a homeowner needs storage for energy generated at daytime. A storage option that he may use is a battery which can be purchased at $10 per piece.

And the final disadvantage of solar energy is due to bad weather conditions. This means that less solar energy can be produced during rainy and cloudy days or in the absence of sunlight.

An individual who is properly acquainted with the pros and cons of solar energy will be able to see if he is pursuing solar engineering for the right reasons.
