How to Build a Bar Desk
- 1). Saw three flat hollow-core doors into three pieces that measure the height and width of the desk you want to build. Each piece should have a hollow core that is visible.
- 2). Use a saw to cut a piece of lumber to fit into the core. Apply a small amount of wood glue to the lumber, and hammer it into the cores on both ends of the open door to support the two door faces. Cut one end of each side door and both ends of the top door to a 45-degree angle. This will allow them to fit together smoothly. The two side doors are the legs and the top door forms the table.
- 3). Lay the top door upside down, and apply an even layer of spray adhesive on each 45-degree angle. Fit the leg pieces into position. Press them tightly together until the pieces are fixed. Secure the pieces with two 4-inch countersunk screws on each end, putting the screws through the top piece into the legs. Ensure that the head of the screw is flush with the surface of the desk.
- 4). Apply the same adhesive to the wood, and apply a wood laminate. These laminates come in a variety of colors and styles, with popular choices for desks being black, white and various styles of wood grain. Use a handheld power router to trim the excess from each laminate panel before applying the next one. Sand the edges with sandpaper after each application to ensure a tight seal.
