Not all medical savings plans are created alike.
In fact, there are cards that just smack of fraud, while some others are legitimate discount card providers themselves.
Distinguishing one from the other is not exactly rocket science, and there are actually tell-tale signs for you to know.
The Fraudulent Cards
  • Youoften get to hear about these cards through spam emails, pop-ups on theInternet, and unsolicited fax.
    You may have even heard of them from a signposted on a telephone pole.
  • Thecard company claims you can save considerably on medical insurance.
  • Youare only provided with a list of providers AFTER you purchase the savingscard.
  • Youare highly pressured to purchase the card, and you are told that "you must act now" or "this is aone-tome offer only".
  • Youare asked right away for debit card or credit card information or you aremade to pay a large up-front fee.
The Legitimate Cards
  • Legitimatemedical savings cards will not mandate large application fees or up-frontcosts.
  • Legitcard companies tell you what they they're selling is NOT insurance.
  • Theywill never suggest that you drop your healthcare insurance.
Remember the old adage that if it's too good to be true, then it probably is.
And you should know that every year Americans are defrauded of $50 billion annually just from these medical savings cards, largely through misrepresentation and altering of your billing for medical services.
Nobody should stop you from purchasing a legitimate medical discount card, but remember though that discount cards are NOT insurance programs.
You cannot make a claim, and you'd still be paying thousands of dollars (from out of your own pocket) on hospitalization even with a discount.
If pre-existing conditions are your only reasons for not buying a health insurance program, then trying looking for a guaranteed issue health insurance program.
