How to Find the Windows XP Registry Key

    Computer Properties

    • 1). Click "Start."

    • 2). Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties."

    • 3). Look for the number under "Registered To:" This section lists your user name and the registration key number.

    Registry Editor

    • 1). Hold the "Windows" key and press "R" to open the "Run" window.

    • 2). Type "regedit" and press "Enter" to run the Registry Editor.

    • 3). Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion" in the Registry Editor.

    • 4). Look for "ProductID" on the right-hand pane. Under the "Data" column, you will see your registration number. This "ProductID" entry is your actual registration key, which you can export by clicking "File" and "Export." However, for reinstallation purposes, you only need the number.
