How to Keep Celery Fresh
- 1). Place in glass container. Separate the celery from the root, trim the ends and wash them. Place the celery stalks with enough water to cover all of the celery in an oblong glass container -- preferably one with a lid. If you don't have a lid, wrap the glass container securely with plastic wrap and place on the bottom shelf of your refrigerator near the back. This should keep your celery fresh for a few weeks.
- 2). Wrap celery stalks in foil. Take a couple of paper towels and dampen them. Wrap the entire celery heart with the damp paper towels, then wrap the entire stalk in aluminum foil. Place it in the bottom of your refrigerator's crisper drawer. The celery should remain crisp for about a month. Be sure to re-wrap what you don't use each time.
- 3). Use a commercial vegetable crisper. There are a number of products on the market, from specially designed bags to plastic containers that will keep your fruit and vegetables, including celery, fresh for weeks. These products are available at department stores, specialty kitchen supply shops and online retailers.
