Top 5 fantasy players

So far in the NFL it has been an interesting year regarding players and their fantasy points. Some players are right where they were expected to be and some players a looking a little worse than they should have. After doing some research on players fantasy points thus far this year here are my rankings for each position.
For Quarter backs it is no surprise that in the top five Tom Brady, Drew Breese and Aaron Rodgers both rank up there. However, a few sleeper picks so far for this year have been Cam Newton and Matt Staford who in my league have eclipsed the top five quarterback mark for this year so far. Looking at these players on paper before the season it would be hard for me to say that these players would play like that have so far. In particular Cam Newton is the biggest surprise in the NFL. He has passed for over 1,600 yards and has thrown for seven touchdowns and has run for 160 yards and five rushing touchdowns, accumulating his final fantasy points for his year so far at 135.4 points putting him in second place among fantasy points scored by quaterbacks. Going into this season many experts from places such as ESPN.com and Rotowire suggested that Newton would be a good second string quarterback to have on your bench. This is because they thought he would end up struggling adjusting to the fast pace game of the NFL. However, with in the first five weeks of this season he has exceeded any and everyone expectations and if he is on your bench now unless you have an Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, or Drew Breese as your starting quarterback I would suggest you make the move to start him. If you are in a league with people who have not been paying much attention to available players and he is just sitting out there on the market I would make a move right now to pick him up. My top five list for Quarterbacks so far this year is as follows:
1. Aaron Rodgers
2. Cam Newton
3. Tom Brady
4. Drew Breese
5. Matt Stafford
My disappointment player at the quarterback position so far this season is Micheal Vick who has thrown multiple interceptions this year.

Next, the running back position so far too has been pretty interesting to watch. This is mainly because one of the leading fantasy scorers from last year Chris Johnson has not even cracked the top ten for running backs this year. The sleeper pick out of the top five in my opinion at this position this year has to be Matt Forte. Some people would argue that he is not much of a sleeper pick, however, if you look at his rushing averages from the last few years and combine that with the pitiful offense line that he is running behind it is a big surprise that Forte has cracked the top five in scores for fantasy running backs through the first 5 weeks. A player that I feel that if he is on your bench should be moved up to starting back on your team this year so far would have to be Benie Wells who ranks ninth among fantasy running backs so far this year. The biggest disappointment so far at the running back position this year without a doubt has to be Chris Johnson. Through week 5 he only has had 250 yards rushing and one touchdown way behind his numbers from last year at this time. The top five running backs so far this year are as follows.
1. Fred Jackson
2. LeSean Mccoy
3. Adrian Peterson
4. Darren Mcfadden
5. Matt Forte
The next position I would like to talk about through week 5 if the Wide Receiver position. At this position so far it has the most surprises I feel. The number one surprise being the explosion of Wes Welker this year. Wes Welker has been a solid number two Fantasy receiver the last few years but through the first five weeks of the season he has surpassed all other receivers in yards by almost 300 yards. He also has accounted for the second most touchdowns out of any receiver this year in the league. Another big surprise at the receiver positions cracking the top 5 has been Steve Smith. Now most people would say Steve Smith is a great receiver but many analysts projected him not to score many points with a rookie quarterback in Cam Newton, However, Cam Newton has helped Smith get back to his big name receiver ways. The biggest disappointment this year at this position has been the receiver of the Houston Texans Andre Johnson. He did not even crack the top ten and has become injured which threw a bone in a lot of fantasy team owners leagues because for some teams he was a number one pick overall. My top five list for Wide recievers is as follows:
1. Wes Welker
2. Calvin Johnson
3. Steve Smith
4. Mike Wallace
5. Dwayne Bowe

The final Fantasy position I would like to discuss is the Tight End postion. There has been one big sleeper pick here and that has been tight end Rob Gronokowski of the New England Patriots. He so far has exceled everyones expectations of him and has vaulted himself to number two on the list of tight ends through week five. This is mainly because of the quarterback who is throwing to him which is Tom Brady. Brady has put him into many situations through out the year in which he was able to score. Because of this Gronokowski has had 5 touchdowns this year which has helped his numbers in fantasy tremendously. There also has been one extreme disappointment at this position. That disappointment has to be Antonio Gates. Going into the season many experts had Gate as the number one tight end over all in the league. However, this year he has struggled to get the ball and has only immersed a lousy 74 yards receiving. Hopefully he will be able to turn it around before the end of the season. The top five tight ends this year so far are as follows:
1. Jimmy Graham
2. Rob Gronokowski
3. Tony Gonzalez
4. Jason Whitten
5. Jermichael Finely

These rankings are just based off of 5 weeks of play and can change dramatically as the season progresses. This is just for a heads up of players to look out for and possibly try to trade for to make your team a better team this year in your league.
