Furniture

• Due to the stateliness of Baroque furniture, take room measurements before purchasing any pieces. The bed is the main focus in the room. Search for a wooden or gilded metal bed frame with heavily carved decorations or ornate finials. Alternately, choose a platform bed frame with tall posts to support a canopy. Find an upholstered corner chair that is carved, inlaid or gilded. Depending on the size of the bedroom, look for an armoire in European Baroque or Louis XV styles. Check out antique markets and also look online for Baroque bed hangings. Check out Baroque master artists such as Caravaggio and Bernini for inspiration.
  
  

Floors and Ceilings

• Typically, tiled floors were patterned and sometimes covered with Oriental or Persian rugs. Alternately, lay down Tatami rush mats, which are generally found in Japanese-styled rooms. Purchase a gilded or ceiling medallion with a circular relief pattern to affix in the middle of the ceiling. If viable, add an immoderate chandelier for a more flamboyant feel. Keep all moldings heavy but plain. Explore Baroque architecture such as the interior of the Palace of Versailles to get a better feel of the period.
  
  

Window Treatment and Walls

• Find full, dramatic drapes in silk, damask or velvet fabrics and gold or silver tasseled tie-backs. If choosing a floral or bird design for window treatments, maintain consistency by using the same fabric and pattern as the upholstered bedroom chair. Hang an unframed tapestry with a compassionate scene on one wall. Affix a beveled glass mirror bordered with an ornate frame in either gilt or in heavily carved wood. Carvings ought to be nature-based with leaves, birds or shells to name a few. Consider one oil painting elaborately framed. Light sources should come from candles rather than table lamps and ceiling fixtures. Set them on a side table or in wall-mounted sconces or floor standing holders.
  
  

Decorative and Bedding

• Hunt in antique stores or flea markets for a few decorative items. Look for Chinese floral relief patterns in vases, planters or ceramic bowls. Blue and white Delftware, a small sculptural bust or lacquerware enhance the Baroque motif. For bedding, choose bold contrasting colors such as purple and ochre or indigo and gold. Tie in bedding selections to complement the canopy, window treatments and any other upholstered furnishings. Sew your own or purchase loose cushions or pillows in complimentary fabrics. Place them on a corner chair or bench seats under windows.
