Make a cardboard pattern. Any cardboard box, such as a cereal box, from your recycle bin will work great for this. Mark off a square in the size you desire. A good size would be 8 or 10 inches. I have used 8 inches here. Once marked cut out your pattern.

    • 2). Use this pattern to cut out as many blocks as you need for your quilt. If you wish to have a 36x36 inch quilt using the 8 inch square cut out 81 squares. This size makes a good lap or baby quilt. Cut out more for larger quilts and less for smaller quilts such as for dolls. The pattern you choose will determine how many blocks you will need in each color. This is a great time to utilize those scraps and make a crazy quilt.

With all your blocks cut out go back to your pattern and mark 2 inches on all sides. I now have a 4 inch square in the middle of my pattern. If you are using a 10 inch pattern your square would be 6 inches.

    • 4). Cut out the square along the lines, being sure to leave both inner and outer squares intact. A good way to do this is to punch a hole in the corner of the small square, insert your scissors and cut along the lines.

    • 5). Mark every ½ inch around the sides of the small square pattern.

Place the small pattern on top of your fleece block. Cut at every ½ inch mark all the way around the fleece block and down to the edge of the small pattern. The result will be fringes all the way around your fleece block.

    • 7). Once all your blocks are cut, arrange them on the floor or table in the pattern you have chosen.

Begin tying blocks together. Tie one block to the next making sure to get the ties on the top of the quilt. When 2 squares are neatly tied together you will have a nice seam on one side and a rag look on the top. Continue tying all squares together till your quilt is complete.

To finish your quilt you can tie the fringes on the outside pieces or leave as is. Here I have made a doll quilt and tied the edges. The doll quilt took me about 30 minutes to complete.
