Podofilox Side Effects
- In clinical trials with podofilox, as detailed by RxList.com, at least half or more participants experienced skin sensations of burning, itching, inflammation, pain and skin erosion. Side effects were more common in women.
- Fewer than 5 percent of study participants reported offensive odor, pain during intercourse, skin bleeding, chafing, crusting, dryness and peeling, scarring, and tingling.
- Other possible side effects that can be caused by bodily absorption of the medication include dizziness, headache, insomnia and nausea.
- Rarely, a severe allergic reaction to podofilox can cause a rash or hives, difficulty breathing, and facial or mouth swelling. Reactions at the application site can include severe pain, burning or itching.
- To avoid severe irritation, patients should not apply podofilox to the inside of the penis, rectum or vagina. Podofilox should also be kept away from the eyes, nose and mouth.
