    • 1). Site the Arizona cypress in a warm area that receives sun all day.

    • 2). Place the Arizona cypress tree's roots in a bucket full of enough water to cover them and soak for three hours.

    • 3). Remove weeds from within a 3-foot radius of the Arizona cypress tree planting site.

    • 4). Excavate the soil in a 2-foot square area, 1-foot deep. Pile the soil next to the hole where it is easier to use a pitchfork or the shovel's edge to crumble it to a more powdery texture.

    • 5). Fill the excavated area with water and when it drains, shovel the soil back into it.

    • 6). Dig a hole that is the same depth at which the bare root Arizona cypress has been growing. You can determine this by examining the lower end of the trunk for the soil ring.

    • 7). Spread the roots at the bottom of the hole and shovel in some soil. Have an assistant hold the tree upright while you use your fingers to work the soil around the Arizona cypress roots.

    • 8). Shovel more soil into the hole until it's half full and fill it the rest of the way with water. As the water drains, the soil settles, removing trapped air. Finish filling the hole with soil and water slowly until water puddles at the base of the Arizona cypress tree.
