Planning your wedding is supposed to be a fun experience. You plan all your life to pick out the perfect spot. You've determined who you want in your wedding. You do your best not to hurt friends and family by picking a friend to be your made of honor. You think you have everything figured out. Check off the location. You check off the honeymoon location. You check off the flowers. You even check off the reception menu. Have you stopped to think about the most important decision of the day. Yes, It's your photographer. These are memories you won't be able to capture again. It's a one time shot and you don't get to do a redo.

The single most important aspect of figuring out who should be your wedding photographer. Determine what style you want. These days there are many different styles. So, once you narrowed down exactly the style you want. You need to start your search. There are many ways you can narrow down your photographer. You can use word of mouth or by a referral from a friend. There are many online sites now that can help you pick the best photographer. There is the knot.com and wedding wire as well as many others. Pricing is the next area of concern.

Just like your dress decision. You have to make sure you can afford the photographer you want. Don't fall in love with a photographer that's totally out of your budget. Check references and if possible ask for previous brides. Get their opinion on how the day went and if they had any personality conflicts with the photographer. How did the family get along with the photographer. All these are extremely important to picking the right photographer.

Look over their portfolio and see if they match your style. Do the brides look flattering in the shots or is the lighting bad. Make sure this is the right person to take your lasting memories. If not you'll be disappointed every time you look at them. It's not something you want to take lightly or trust with someone who isn't a professional.

Avoid the family friend or anyone who says they have shot a wedding or two. This can lead to disaster and in the end disappointment. Packaging and looking over what you exactly get is the last step. Make sure you get what you want and get a firm price. Review the contract to make sure that everything is right. Pricing and other issue should not come up on the day or your wedding. Find out the time frame of how long it will take to get the edited pictures back. Do they actually edit the pictures. Some photographers don't so make sure they do. Pay your deposit to hold your date if they require it. If they don't then worry as some will over book that date and you'll be scrambling to find a photographer at the last minute.

This is your special day and don't trust it to an amateur or someone you find on craigslist. Hire a professional that will provide you with lasting images or your most important of all days.
