How Much Money Do Bank Managers Earn?
- For the purposes of its May 2010 national employment survey, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics classified bank managers alongside other financial mangers, such as those in charge of investment or insurance. It concluded that the mean annual salary across the professional grouping was $116,970. Calculated from wage data supplied by over 450,000 individuals, this translates into an hourly pay rate of $56.24 and a monthly income of $9,748.
- Of the industry sectors detailed within the bureau's survey, bank managers are most likely to fall within either depository credit intermediation or management of companies and enterprises. The bureau listed the mean yearly wages within these sectors as $96,070 and $134,100, respectively.
- The BLS listed New York as the state in which financial managers of all kinds, including bank managers, were likely to achieve the highest wages, with a mean yearly salary of $155,600. New Jersey and Delaware followed, with similar wages of $136,960 and $134,790, respectively. California and Massachusetts were listed with comparable rates of pay --- $130,040 and $129,240 --- while Illinois and Connecticut were amongst the states with the lowest means, at respective rates of $112,410 and $111,860 per year.
- The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment opportunities for financial mangers like bank managers will grow by around 8 percent over the decade from 2008 to 2018. This corresponds with projections for the country as a whole, across all occupations, which is expected to grow by between 7 and 13 percent over the same period. The continued expansion of the financial services industry will see banks opening more branches, spurring demand for suitable managers. This should mean that wage levels for the role remain high. However, the bureau cautions that competition for vacancies is likely to be keen, and candidates with postgraduate qualifications are likely to be best prepared to secure desired positions.
