Solar Panels: Home-Made Or Commercial?
With the massive increase in the usage of solar panels, people have found cheaper ways to save themselves from the heavy bills by making their own solar panels at home. Well, this may be effective for them since it saves them from the enormous amount that one has to put in, in order to get their hands on a commercial panel system, but does it last as long? According to research, a solar panel which has been bought from commercial manufacturers would last as long as about 25 or more years but this is not the case with the panels made at home.
There can be many reasons for that, but the one major reason is that commercial panels cost a lot because quality material has been used in constructing them. Whereas, the solar panels that are developed at home are mainly due to the expensiveness of commercial panels. And why would one spend as much money on these panels if they can get it by using cheaper material? But that material of lower quality could cost you more than you think.
But this does not mean that all home-made panels would be damaged in less than the time it would take to damage a commercial solar panel. They only do not last long because of the material which is used in developing it is not of high quality. For instance, a homemade panel which is constructed using wood and in addition has a coating of ultraviolet radiation protection varnish, would last long enough. The varnish protects the panels for a longer period of time. When all these items are kept in mind while constructing your very own homemade panel, you would have a longer life for it; preferably, it would last for more than 10 years if it is maintained continually. The silver lining here would be to use durable and quality material, and your home-made panels may last more than 10 to 15 years.
