Chronic Arm Pain
- According to the Mayo Clinic, arm pain may result from bursitis, tendonitis or carpal tunnel syndrome. Injuries to the arm can also result in chronic pain.
- Severe arm pain or arm pain that is accompanied by squeezing or pressure in the chest may be caused by a heart attack. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate emergency medical help.
- Arm pain that develops with exertion and is relieved by rest may be a sign of heart disease and should be evaluated by a doctor as soon as possible. People who cannot move an arm in a normal fashion should also see a doctor right away.
- Individuals with arm pain that does not improve after a week of rest should schedule a an appointment with their doctor.
- Arm pain sufferers may get some relief from their pain if they protect and rest the arm, apply ice to it and elevate it. A compression bandage may help reduce swelling.
