DIY Reversing Camera
- 1). Select a location for the reversing camera. The camera should be positioned in the center of the back of the vehicle. It should be in a location that does not receive a high amount of debris; such as below the bumper. It should also not detract significantly from the aesthetic of the vehicle; like on the rear window. Many reversing cameras are mounted below or above the trunk latch.
- 2). Purchase a reversing camera. To make the installation significantly easier and to avoid complex wiring, purchase a wireless reversing camera kit. A wireless camera is much easier to install. The camera kit will include compatible LCD monitor for the camera. The other advantage of buying these two items as a package is that they will likely be cheaper than if the components were purchased separately. After-market car stores should sell wireless reversing camera kits.
- 3). Mount the camera to the vehicle. The camera should come with a adhesive backing for attaching the camera to the car. Remove the protective sheet, exposing the sticky surface. Carefully stick the camera to the vehicle. Push the camera down slowly and firmly. Insert any required batteries before doing this.
- 4). Mount the LCD monitor that came with the kit. The kit will likely include a mounting bracket. This will attach to the dash of the car. It may clip to the vents, or it may need to be screwed into the dash. If it needs to be screwed in, then use the appropriate screwdriver.
- 5). Attach a power source. Most LCD monitors will include a cable that plugs into the monitor and the car's cigarette lighter. Plug this cable in.
- 6). Turn on the car. Turn on the monitor; which should also activate the camera. Test the camera out.
