There are just a ton of different types of green tea on the market today! Most people associate green tea with Japan or China and just assume this is where their tea has come from.
There are other countries that make a major contribution to green tea available in the market place today and you may just be a little surprised to find out that Turkey and Kenya both are major players in the green tea industry.
There is also Taiwan and many other asian countries that are heavy into the green tea industry.
Turkey was a bit of a shocker for me as was Kenya.
I am an avid tea drinker and did not associate either of these countries with the green tea market.
Of course, each country has it's prized blends and they are all a little different in flavour, aroma, appearance and cost.
Some of the Japanese Green Tea's such as Gyokuro can fetch as much as $1000 per pound for this elite green tea.
Until recently, this Japanese Green Tea was not even available outside of Japan, now however if you look long and hard you may find some.
Of course as with all teas, there are varying grades, and cost becomes a huge factor.
Kenya has some of the least expensive green teas due to the cost of labour in their country.
But on a great note, it provides jobs.
Something Kenya is proud of.
So next time you are at your favorite tea vendor or tea merchant, see how many green teas you can find from these different countries, you may be surprised and it is always a great experience to try a new green tea.
You never know, you may just find a new favorite!
