How to Melt Snow Off of a Roof With Calcium
- 1). Fill each pantyhose leg with calcium chloride pellets. For maximum efficiency, fill one leg at a time with a handful of pellets. Create a knot 6 inches from the tip of the foot. Add another scoop of pellets and tie the pantyhose off again. Continue along the entire length of the leg. This ensures that the pellets don’t all bunch together in the toes of the pantyhose. Repeat the same process in the other leg.
- 2). Tie the pantyhose off at the waist. Create enough calcium chloride-pellet-filled pantyhose to cover the roof every 4 feet.
- 3). Place the pantyhose legs spread apart to make a vertical line every 4 feet on the roof. Use a ladder or simply toss the pantyhose up onto the roof. Use a rake to help situate the ice melters.
