Church ministry grants fund church repairs, which are much needed as many churches are older structures whose cost of repairs exceed the local church's ability to pay. The purpose of these grants is to provide money that does not have to be repaid, in order to keep churches functioning and allow money donated by the congregation to fund other needs. Church ministry grants come from various sources, including the governing bodies of the local churches. - Church grants have aided hurricane victims along the Mississippi coast.USA states series: Mississippi. According to the U.S. Catholic website, the Catholic Church Extension Society provides millions of dollars in grants to churches along the Gulf Coast that were damaged by the effects of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Half of this money must be spent on church repairs that are related to the storm damage. For example, one grant went toward the construction of a new school cafeteria for the Resurrection Catholic School in Pascagoula, Mississippi. This cafeteria will not only serve the school, but will provide space for numerous church functions. - In the Southeastern United States, grant money is available to United Methodist Church congregations through the Renfro Trust Fund, a fund that was established to support rural churches in the Southeastern Jurisdiction. Rural churches are defined as a church in a town of less than 10,000 people, and the trust fund seeks churches that are unusual, or cannot receive money from other sources. The maximum amount of the grant is $5,000, and money can be used on repairs to maintain the local church building.
- Christian Grants is a website that provides information to churches regarding sources of grant money for a variety of needs, including church repair. One example is the Oldham Little Church Foundation of Sugar Land, Texas, which provides grant money to small Protestant churches with memberships of 35 to 300, for the purpose of church repairs, renovations and new construction.
