Being a Better Blogger - Is it Worth it to Start a Blog?

103 17
You are ready to start a blog.
You've thought long and hard about it.
You have a desire to share.
You have something to say.
You know the medium you want to use.
You are dedicated to quality posts that evoke a conversation with your readers, as oppose to throwing thoughts into cyber space.
The last question to ask yourself is this: Is it worth it to blog? Is it worth it to blog? Is it worth it to use the blog platform for your outlet? Is it worth it to commit to the process? Consider the following and decide if the answer for you is 'yes' or 'no.
' You Have The Time.
Time is one of the biggest deciding factors.
Do you have the time to create and edit posts? Do you have the time to keep up with comments? There's no point starting a blog and then posting random thoughts every three months.
You'll never build an audience that way.
You Have A Vision.
It's worth it to start a blog if you know exactly why you're blogging, what you want to achieve in the short term with your blog and what you want to achieve in the long term.
A vague idea of sharing your point of view isn't enough.
If you have a concrete vision of why you're writing, it's a lot easier to devote time to your blog and keep it up.
You Stand Out.
Look around at the other blogs in your subject area.
What will you say that is different from all the others? Just having a blog does not make you or your point of view unique.
Standing out is especially important if you're using your blog for a marketing or a monetary purpose.
If making money is included in the vision for your blog, it has to stand out.
You Have Patience.
Blog success does not happen over night.
There is a notion given our get-rich-quick society that all you need to do is put your blog out in the world and the money will start rolling in.
Granted, there's an exception to every rule.
But you can't start out thinking your blog will be that exception.
There are too many other bloggers out there who also consider themselves to be that exception.
It takes time to build a blog's success: Gary Vaynerchuk, a well established blog success story, has said that it took eighteen months of posts before he began to really notice a difference.
Eighteen months.
Are you prepared for the long haul? Are you prepared to commit to your blog for over a year before seeing results? Is it worth it? Blogs are a fantastic mode of expression and can be a viable marketing tool.
They can lead to bigger and better things.
Exploring the worth of your particular blog before getting started will only save you countless frustration later down the line.
