How to Network Two Vista Computers
- 1). Insert one end of the crossover cable into the network adapter in one of the Vista computers, then connect the other end into the other computer.
- 2). Configure your network settings. Right-click on the Network icon in the taskbar and select "Network and Sharing Center." Alternatively, you can go to "Start' > "Control Panel" > "Network and Internet," then click on "Network and Sharing Center."
- 3). Double-click on the "Unidentified network" button at the top of the window, then click on the "Network discovery and file sharing are turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Click to change" message and select "Turn on network discovery and file sharing." Provide confirmation if prompted, then click "No, make the network that I am connected to a private network."
- 1). Set up your router (consult your router documentation for help) and connect it to power.
- 2). Plug the Ethernet cables into each computer and to the back of the router. Consult your router documentation for any router-specific instructions you may need to carry out, such as installing software on one of the computers.
- 3). Open the Network and Sharing Center in one of the Vista computers, then carry out step three of the "Crossover cable method" section.
