How to Turn a Small Space Into a Nursery Nook
- 1). Pick double-duty furniture, which is anything that serves more than one purpose. Use a changing table that doubles as a crib or a crib with drawers for storage underneath the mattress. A bench or chair with storage underneath gives you space for sitting and offers more storage.
- 2). Paint the nook in a light color, such as baby blue, pale pink, butter yellow or cream. Choose a color that separates the nook from the surrounding rooms, which designates the nursery as its own separate space. Paint the trim in a complementary color, as the lighter colors open up the room.
- 3). Hang the curtain rod several inches over the top of the window, rather than placing it flush with the window. Arrange lace curtains or curtains made from another light fabric on the curtain rod. The rod brings the eye up, making the room feel bigger.
- 4). Remove any excess clutter from the room, including any items you formerly stored in the room. Reduce the amount of items you keep on hand for the baby. Use specialty storage systems for hanging diapers and other small items you need every day over the door or on the wall.
- 5). Lay a throw rug on the floor that brings in some brighter colors and works with any decorations you hang in the room. The bright pop of color keeps the nursery from looking dull, but does not introduce too many colors that might overwhelm the room.
