How to Put a Jenson CD Player in a 1989 Dodge Dakota
- 1). Lift the Dakota's hood and loosen the bolt on the negative battery cable with a pair of pliers. Lift the cable from the battery and rest it away from the battery. Move to the inside of the Dodge.
- 2). Remove the four screws at the corners of the dashboard panel to the left of the steering wheel with a Torx-15 socket and drive. Remove the screws from the four corners around the stereo assembly with the Torx-15 socket and drive.
- 3). Remove the two screws on the dashboard panel under the steering column with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the panel from the dashboard and remove the two screws on the bottom edge of the upper dash panel. Pull the panel away from the dashboard and set it aside.
- 4). Remove the two screws on either side of the stereo bracket with the Phillips screwdriver. Slide the stereo from the dashboard dock and disconnect the stereo wiring and antenna cable lead from the outlets on the back of the stereo deck. Set the unit aside.
- 5). Slide the faceplate adapter into the stereo dock until it locks into place. Pull the stereo wiring through the back of the faceplate adapter as you install it into the dock. Plug the stereo wiring connectors into the wiring harness adapter leads.
- 6). Connect the wiring harness adapter lead connector to the outlet on the left side of the Jensen CD player's rear panel. Insert the antenna lead into the FM antenna input on the lower-right corner of the new CD player's rear panel. Slide the Jensen deck into the faceplate adapter until it locks into place.
- 7). Place the upper dash panel back onto the Dakota's dashboard. Replace the four screws on the left and four screws on the right of the dashboard with the Torx-15 driver. Place the lower panel against the dashboard and screw in the two screws with the Phillips screwdriver. Return to the battery.
- 8). Place the battery cable clamp back onto the battery terminal. Tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench and close the hood.
