Liquid Dishwashing Detergent

• Liquid dishwashing detergent is effective in removing oil and grease stains from upholstered chairs, couches and loveseats. It will also work to remove food stains. Use a mild soap that does not contain bleach, fragrance or any dyes as these could easily be transferred to the upholstery where they might permanently damage it. To use it, mix a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent with a cup of hot water. Slightly dampen a cloth with the solution, and scrub the furniture until it is clean. Always sponge the area with cold water to remove excess soap, and let it dry completely.
  
  

Rubbing Alcohol

• Rubbing alcohol is an effective solvent to use to clean marker and ink stains that you or your children might have gotten on your furniture. To use it, blot the rubbing alcohol directly on the stain. If the stain is big, work from the edges toward the center to ensure you don't spread it beyond its borders. Rinse the area with clear water from a sponge.
  
  

Erasers

• Erasers are effective in removing stains from upholstered surfaces that you cannot use water to clean, which includes delicate silk or lace upholstery as well as suede or any type of unfinished leather. To use it, rub the eraser over a piece of paper to remove any pencil residue; rub the eraser directly over the stain. It is especially effective in removing scuff marks.
  
  

White Vinegar

• White vinegar is a common ingredient in many home cleaning solutions because it is completely natural and nontoxic. It is effective in removing food stains as well as bad odors from your furniture. To use it, mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Blot the food stain with the solution until it is gone. You don't need to rinse the solution with water as the white vinegar residue will help prevent mold and mildew from growing there.
