How to Build an Outdoor Pet Shelter From Rigid Insulation
- 1). Cut a doorway, using a utility knife, into the side of a long storage container that has a lid. Cut the doorway near the corner of the storage container several inches from the bottom of the container to keep rainwater from flowing in.
- 2). Measure the inside of each of the storage containers walls as well as the lid. Cut rigid insulation to the specific measurements.
- 3). Cut a Mylar survival blanket with the same measurements, using a pair of scissors. Glue the blanket pieces to the side of the rigid insulation that will be facing inward. The survival blanket will reflect body heat back into the shelter. Let the Mylar survival blanket dry on the insulation several hours before continuing.
- 4). Attach the rigid insulation to the inside of the storage container and lid with glue. Let the glue dry for 24 hours. Place blankets on the bottom of the container and secure the lid closed.
- 5). Wrap the outside of the storage container with a solar pool cover. The pool cover works by retaining the heat that it absorbs from sunlight to keep pool water warmer. Wrapping the pet shelter in the pool cover will keep the inside of the container several degrees warmer.
