    • 1). Check to see if the unit is securely plugged in.

    • 2). Check the circuit breaker box to see if any circuits have been tripped; this will help you rule out a lack of electricity as the reason the machine won't work.

    • 3). Open the washing machine lid, and locate the small switch that is depressed when the lid closes. The washing machine will not operate unless this switch is depressed, and sometimes it can get stuck. Press the switch firmly a few times with your finger; it should easily depress and make a quiet click noise. If the switch does not easily depress, then it is likely the cause of the washer not spinning, and it should be replaced by a licensed repairman.

    • 4). Remove some of the clothes in the washer if it is full, and close the lid. If you tripped the unit's protection circuit by overloading the machine, removing some of the clothes may restart the machine.

    • 5). Call a licensed professional to determine your problem if none of these troubleshooting steps get your Kenmore washing machine spinning again. The unit may have a problem with its master control circuit, motor coupler, belts, spin bearing or basket drive, all of which can affect the spinning function.
