Considering Removing a Mole? Before That Find Out What Moles Are

We're all born with moles.
Generally they don't start to appear until late in our childhood or our early teenage years.
Regardless of when they appear moles are pretty much a fact of life so it's good to educate yourself before rushing into removing a mole.
Our skin has pigmentation cells which gives our skin its colour, the more pigmentation we have the darker our skin is.
These pigmentation cells are called melanocytes.
Now sometimes these melanocytes, or pigmentation cells, can group together which results in yep you guessed it: moles.
Depending on how many of these cells group together and how much pigmentation we have to begin with, we can end up with a huge array of moles which have different sizes, colours and shapes.
1.
So what triggers moles to grow? Well there are few different things but changes in hormones are one contributing factor.
Teenagers go through a massive hormonal change during those tumultuous years and this can spur on mole activity.
Likewise the same can be said for pregnant women as their body produces vast amounts of hormones to cater for the changes occurring in their body and for the unborn baby.
Hands down though the biggest contributor to moles is that which gives us life itself: the sun.
Through over-exposure to the sun's UV rays our skin cells can be mutated causing moles to suddenly appear.
Now think back to a time in your life when you had the most exposure to the sun and its dangerous rays.
You might have to go back awhile but I'm sure you'll come to the same answer as I did: my teenage years! So we have our hormones raging out of control as well as the sun beating down on us! Another important consideration is your family history of moles.
It's a sad fact that if your parents have a large number of moles than you most likely will too.
2.
So how many moles is normal? That's a question that I hear a fair bit, everyone wants to compare themselves to others and some magical "normal" number.
It's really not an easy question to answer because there are a lot of factors to consider.
There are the ones mentioned above as well as having to consider where you live.
If you live somewhere that has a lot of sunny days than obviously you could be expected to have a higher mole count.
Anyway on average anywhere between 25 to 40 moles is considered normal.
