California Birth Records
California started its statewide recording in the year 1905.
Birth certificates that have occurred before July 1, 1905 can be found in the concerned county, where the event has happened.
For any records that have occurred after this date, you may contact the Office of Vital Records and Statistics under the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
You will be qualified to request for a birth certificate copy only if your name appears on the certificate, you are a parent whose name also appears on the record or if you are demanded by the law to obtain the needed birth certificate.
Other applicants can only obtain informational copies which are also certified.
Next, you will need to submit a sworn statement, unless if it is indicated that you only need an informational copy.
You are required to pay a $14-fee for birth certificates (processing time of 18 weeks) or a $20-fee for delayed birth certificates (3 month-processing time).
Money orders and checks are accepted payment methods and should be made payable to the Office of Vital Records.
It is not recommended that you send cash via mail.
The mentioned fees are not refundable and shall be kept as a search fee as you will be issued with a Certificate of No Public Record.
