There are two types of freelance writers out there: the ones who have more work than they can possibly squeeze into one month, and well, the ones who don't.
If you happen to be in that second group and wonder how to get more freelance writing jobs, then this article is for you.
One of the simplest ways I know to get more work is with templates.
I use templates to bid for projects on freelance sites like Elance as well as templates for query letters and cover letters when sending my resume.
I even have a couple templates for writing projects I find myself doing over and over again.
Getting more freelance writing jobs this way is about being able to seek out more work quickly.
If you are not convinced, take a week to track how much time you spend looking for work instead of actually working.
I personally did this for 1 month and was surprised to find I spent as much as 5 hours each week just looking for work! I know for a fact that some freelance writers spend even more than that each week.
This time can quickly add up to a few hundred dollars a month that you are just flushing down the toilet.
Most of that wasted time lies in writing up bids and letters from scratch each time.
With templates, you can simply fill in the details for each particular job and send it off.
It allows you to contact more prospects in less time.

Note that a template is not the same as a generic bid or letter.
You never want to fall in the trap of just copying and pasting one bid or letter over and over again.
About 85% or more of the higher paying clients will spot a generic inquiry quickly and just throw it away.
To get more freelance writing jobs, you need to make each inquiry specific to the job.
A template bid, for example, should highlight your skills, experience, standard fee and contain 2 - 5 links to your best published work.
There should be gaps to fill in details like how long it will take you to finish the specific job you are going for, and it should always begin with 2 - 3 sentences which prove you have read the job description and are genuinely interested.
A template cover letter may have your greeting, contact information, a few lines discussing experience and skills, and space for at least one paragraph that showcases your genuine interest in the job.
Using templates to get more freelance writing jobs can help you eliminate the time you spend writing the same information over and over again.
If you abuse it by just making generic letters and bids, you are basically a spammer.
This will eventually lower the number of jobs you get and will quickly ruin your reputation as a freelance writer.
Use templates wisely, and you will quickly fill up your schedule with high-payer jobs and your reputation will shine.
