Throughout the United States, July means sweltering summer temperatures and bustling tourist activity. However, many parts of the U.S. and Canada can help keep you cool and away from the entire tourism hubbub. Anchorage, Alaska, for instance, experiences lower humidity and an average July temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit, and Canada hovers around 75 degrees during the summer months. Families have many opportunities to explore historical and entertaining places while on a refreshing summer getaway. - Anchorage is an Alaska city that offers visitors majestic volcanoes, historical museums, state and national parks and a large selection of shopping, dining and entertainment venues. The city features a variety of outdoor markets during the summer months that sell uniquely Alaskan artifacts such as native masks, crafted ivory and carved jade. You can find these throughout the markets areas and department stores. Recreational enthusiasts can enjoy many activities in Anchorage and surrounding areas. Geocaching, hiking, mountain climbing and glacier walking are popular in July. This is especially true in Chugach State Park which includes over a half-million acres of Alaskan wilderness. Back in the city center, you can find many family accommodations that range from 5-star hotels to budget motels.
- Montreal, a city in the Canadian province of Quebec, is a frequent vacation spot for traveling families. Montreal is located on an island and offers visitors a large array of public transit systems including bus, rail and cycling paths. The city features many family-friendly attractions that include the Montreal Six Flags Theme Park, a zoo, an aquarium and an interactive science museum. Because Montreal is the second-largest French-speaking city in the world, you can enjoy an abundance of French cuisine as well as entertainment and shopping venues. Throughout the city and surrounding suburbs, guests can stay at a wide variety of hotels and motels.
- The Napa Valley is America's most popular wine region and is located north of the San Francisco Bay area. The valley offers visitors July temperatures that range from 60 degrees Fahrenheit at night to around 70 degrees during the day, but it is not unusual for late July temperatures to reach 105 degrees. Humidity, however, is lower and the weather cools off at sunset. The Napa Valley is a prime place for wine connoisseurs. Many wineries and restaurants are at their prime, as the grapes are at their maximum growth and are changing colors. Charles Krug Winery and Chateau Montelena are two wineries that offer tours, wine-tasting and restaurant facilities. The region also has many bed and breakfasts that place guests close to all that the area has to offer.
