How to Decorate a Living Room With a Balcony

    • 1). Paint the living room a light color. The balcony brings in a lot of sunlight during the day and darker walls contrast with it. A lighter room blends with the sunlight more effectively.

    • 2). Hang curtains around the balcony windows that match your furnishings and carpeting. The curtains should act as a frame for the balcony and blend the entranceway with the rest of the living room.

    • 3). Plant or hang flowers on the balcony. Flowers add a decorative flair to the living room because the blooms are visible through the windows during the daytime.

    • 4). Angle your couch or chairs so the balcony is visible while you're sitting down. Avoid placing a television directly opposite the balcony, because the sunlight coming through the windows makes it harder to see the image on the TV screen.

    • 5). Place chairs and a small table out on the balcony that match the living room furnishings so you can sit comfortably outside when you want.

    • 6). Hang photos or artwork in the living room on the walls away from the balcony. Pictures or art too close to the balcony door or windows often look too busy, but enhance a room when placed on other walls. The sunlight from the balcony also draws attention to certain pieces at specific times of the day.
