How to File a Complaint Against a Judge in New Jersey
- 1). Download the complaint form from the New Jersey Judiciary website (see Resources). The New Jersey Judiciary provides an online complaint form which may be filled out on your computer, printed and mailed to the Advisory Committee.
- 2). Fill out the complaint form. Provide your name, address and telephone number. Provide the name of the judge you are filing a complaint against, the court where they preside, your case number, the name of any attorneys involved and the names of any non-attorney witnesses. On the second page, describe your complaint in detail, including dates and times. If your complaint is based on a comment made to you by a judge, provide your recollection of the judge's comment to the best of your abilities. Sign and date the second page of the form.
- 3). Attach any relevant documents in support of your claim. Supporting documents may include legal briefs and documents filed in your case or the affidavit of a supporting witness.
- 4). Mail your complaint and relevant documents to the Supreme Court of New Jersey Advisory Committee (see Resources). The Advisory Committee on Judicial Conduct meets every six weeks. After receiving your complaint, the Advisory Committee will review your complaint and determine whether there is a basis for further investigation. You will be notified of the Advisory Committee's decision on whether or not an investigation will take place.
