    • 1). Fill a bucket with warm, soapy water, and use a damp sponge to remove all dust and dirt in your chair's crevices. Rub nooks and crannies using an old toothbrush to remove grime. Use a light scrub brush to remove food and grease stains. Remove fabric seating area if replacing fabric.

    • 2). Place a drop cloth on the floor, and set your old chair on top. Ensure the room has adequate ventilation by opening windows and using a fan.

    • 3). Mask off any areas on your chair that should not be painted. Use 1-inch painter's tape to protect surfaces. Wrap surfaces with plastic or newspaper for additional protection.

    • 4). Sand the surface with medium-grit sandpaper. Rub the sandpaper in the direction of the wood grain. Wipe these prepped surfaces with a damp, moist rag to remove all dust.

    • 5). Pour paint into a small paint tray. Use a mini paint roller with a foam cover to paint your chair. Add a light, even coats of paint to your chair's surface until you achieve the desired look.

    • 6). Stretch new fabric across the seating area or chair back, making sure the fabric is taut and without wrinkles. Staple the fabric into place. Put the seat or chair back into place, and secure.
