Best Places to Rest in Walt Disney World

When you're planning a trip to Walt Disney World, finding places to rest is probably not the first thing (or the fifth, or even the tenth) thing that comes to mind. You're probably all about the rides, shows, parades, and meeting characters. But, whew, just thinking about that wears me out. Add to that the hot Florida sun and humidity and the crowds of people to maneuver through, and you'll be searching out shady benches before noon on your first day.

You'll find wonderful respites from the heat in most attraction lines because of the cool air conditioning. And sometimes just sitting down for a ride can be enough to soothe aching feet. But if you feel like you need a bit of a longer break, settle in for 40 winks at any one of my favorite resting spots€¦

In Magic Kingdom, Mickey's Philharmonic offers a nice, cool theater and a short, 15-minute 3-D film set to classical music. You'll be missing out on a pretty fun show, but sometimes you just need a nap. It wouldn't be my first choice for a nap, but it is nice to rest in the cool and dark.

Carousel of Progress is another cute show, especially if you are interested in history and animatronics. But it's rarely full, so it gives you some room to stretch out, and again, it's cool and dark and gives you about 20 minutes to catch some Zs.

My choice for a nap in Magic Kingdom is the Hall of Presidents. Not that I don't enjoy the attraction€"I very much do! It just seems that by the time we make our way to Liberty Square to see it, it's the middle of the day and I've usually just eaten lunch. So it's just inevitable that I catch a quick cat nap during some of the Presidents' speeches.

In Epcot, don't hit the Universe of Energy right away€"save that for when you need a rest later in the day. Ellen's Energy Adventure, while entertaining, offers almost 45 minutes of resting time in the dark. The end of the show is loud, so you'll certainly wake up in time for that, but you'll be rested and ready to move on to the next attraction.

The American Adventure is another option, but again, I wouldn't recommend napping through it because you'll miss an amazing and inspiring show. However, sometimes you just can't help a quick resting of your eyes.

My favorite place to rest in Epcot is in France, at the Impressions de France film. It's an absolutely beautiful film with breathtaking scenery set to classical music, but in the dark and cool air, that music is just like a lullaby to me. And if you started your day at World Showcase at Mexico, by the time you get to France, you'll be ready for a rest.

Hollywood Studios is full of thrills, but when you need a rest, try Muppet Vision 3D. Enjoy the classic Muppet-style jokes in the green room€"look closely at the details here€"and enjoy a quick rest during the show.

Animal Kingdom doesn't offer too many choices. You'll want to see Legend of the Lion King and Finding Nemo the Musical, and while those are both in cool, dark theaters, they are both so lively you won't be able to close your eyes for fear of missing out. It's Tough to be a Bug is possibly an option, but there are other effects in addition to the 3D effects which could make relaxing difficult. Your best bet at Animal Kingdom is to have a leisurely lunch and rest up there.

One of the best ways to find your second wind is to take a break during the heat of the day and leave the parks to go back to your resort. Take a nap. Go for a swim. Have a snack. Then head back to the parks full of energy for the night!
