I Need Career Help!

I am finding it impossible to find a job right now. I am a university student in Glasgow and I really need a job for the rest of the summer because I'm getting closer and closer to the limit on my overdraft! I sort of assumed I'd find a good job that paid well without any trouble, but I suppose I didn't consider the severity of the current economic climate. I've had short term contracts (a couple of weeks at a time) with a company through a friend who works for them, but I really need something a bit more long term. My problem is that I have virtually no work experience and nowadays companies want you to have very specific experience to the job you're applying for. I may have an impressive CV in general, but my year in a small cafe and a year of piano teaching aren't particularly practical. Admittedly, I should have more luck now I have been working with my friends company. Even though it's only been a few weeks, my typing skills have vastly improved, I've learned some basic transcription skills, I can operate all Microsoft 2010 programs and I have experience in using Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and Report Viewer.
However, I have been casually scoping the job market while I've been working and it's still not looking good. I have looked into every avenue I can think of. I've even looked into working as a virtual assistant or providing Online Secretarial Services Scotland. Unfortunately these aren't the most practical solutions as becoming a successful virtual assistant requires a lot of training and learning time and resources. I have been rejected from transcription services businesses because my typing isn't fast or accurate enough. It may impress me and my close friends but apparently it's just not good enough to go professional! I have subscribed to every job site I can but no one is getting back to me except for the pyramid marketing types who I staunchly refuse to have anything to do with.
I really need help quickly! Is there any way for me to do more than what I'm doing? Is there something I can do to make my CV look better? Or should I just give up?
