The Sims 2 Open for Business Hints

    Setting Up

    • When setting up your sim's first business, size is important. Location, however, is not. While it may seem that setting up in a certain area would be better, you'll get the same number of customers regardless of where you are. A big store, though, will attract more customers than a small store. If you cannot afford to buy an empty lot to build a store, start the business in the sim's home. Turn a room into a store and build entrances exclusively for the shop so family members do not interfere with customers. Set up shelves with enough room for the items your sim is selling and room to expand later as she earns money. Make sure to buy a cash register and a counter. Your cashier should be able to easily get to the register, and customers should have room to walk to the shelves and cash register without getting in each others' way.

    Employees and Customers

    • Once your sim's store is open for business, make sure to have an Open/Closed sign to hang on the door. Display the "Open" side when you want customers to enter, and turn it over when you want them to leave. The store can stay open all the time with enough employees, but you'll need to rotate them so they don't become overworked and quit. Hire customers who come into the store. Talk to employees and don't make them work for more than a few hours in one shift. As they improve, give them raises. If you do not, they will quit and your overall rating with them will go down. If you want to get rid of an employee because you do not like or cannot afford him, lay him off. Firing an employee will hurt your relationship score with her.

To make sure your rating with customers is high, always have enough cashiers on hand, keep shelves stocked and give customers room to walk around. Customers get angry when they aren't served or if they have to wait in line. Your sim doesn't have to be there but needs plenty of workers to do the various jobs.

    Other Jobs

    • Your sim may choose to charge people to come into his home or store instead of selling items. To entice customers, you'll need things such as playground equipment, a pool, a restaurant or any other large, expensive items they typically wouldn't have access to at home. A dance floor can make for a great club that will attract sims. For maximum revenue, build an entertainment area and charge for entry as well as a shop to sell items to clients when they're finished partying.
