How to Fix a Completely Blocked Shower Drain
- 1). Pour 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar into the shower drain in the evening, and let it sit overnight. Flush the solution with very hot water the following morning. If this doesn't clear the drain, continue on to the next method.
- 2). Remove the drain cover with a screwdriver, and set the cover aside. Unbend a wire coat hanger with a pair of pliers, and create a small hook at the end of the hanger. Insert the hook down into the drain, and pull it back up. This will remove any hair blocking the drain. Run hot water down the drain to see if it has been cleared.
- 3). Fill the bottom of the shower area with an inch or two of water, so that the drain itself is submerged. Place a plunger directly over the open drain and pump in short, fast motions. Continue this process until the drain has been cleared.
- 4). Call a plumber if you're still not seeing any improvement. Rarely, there can be complications with roots or other hard-to-remove objects that require a professional with industrial equipment.
